The tin glazed earthenware charger decorated in shades of blue with a winter scene showing a farmers wagon on a road between trees after an oil painting by Louis Apol. On the right: Naar Apol.

Signed on the bottom in underglaze blue for:

DE PORCELEYNE FLES - ROYAL  DELFT  

DELFT - HOLLAND &  CU = 1975.

Painter’s initials: JVW  = J.H. van Willigen.

Lodewijk Frederik Hendrik (Louis) Apol 

(6 September 1850 in The Hague - 22 November 1936 in The Hague.) He was a Dutch painter and one of the most prominent representatives of the Hague School. His work is widely spread and found in the USA, United Kingdom and Germany. The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag have work of  Louis Apol in their collection.
