Antique Dutch Royal Delft Polychrome Cloisonné Tile. 350 Years Ontzet van Leiden 3 Oct. 1574 - 1924

The square majolica cloisonné tile decorated in colours with a bronze cauldron with 3 OCT 1574 above a ribbon with LEIDEN ONTZET
Here under a white bread with a breadknife and two herrings. This tradition comes from the end of the siege of Leiden by the Spanish troops when the Dutch Watergeuzen ended it on October 3rd 1574 and giving to the starving people white bread and herrings. The cauldron was filled still with “hutspot” and found by Gijsbert Cornelisz. Schaeck in the “Lammengans”  fortress. This cauldron is now in the Leiden Historical Museum De Lakenhal.  Marked on the back with the impressed factory mark for:
