The tin glazed earthenware plate commemorating Jan Pieterszoon Coen and the 300th anniversary of Batavia (Djakarta) , founded by J.P. Coen in the Dutch Indies for the V.O.C., The Far East Company, founded 1602 in Amsterdam.
The plate decorated in shades of blue with his Portrait.
In the top: “Dispereert niet” (Don’t be dispirited)
and under:
1578 JAN.PIETERSZ. COEN 1629
The rim decorated with the coat of arms of the Netherlands, The Royal Family & The Dutch Indies all connected with a chain.
On the bottom in a cartouche:
MEI 1619 VOC 1919.
Signed on the back in underglaze blue for:
