Rare Famille Noire Black Scratch Royal Delft Lidded Tea Caddy - 1967

The tin glazed earthenware tea box with ovoid body decorated in black, in the late 17th century “Famille Noir“ tradition, with flowering prunus branches in white and yellow, using the short - lived Black Scratch technique, which is far less common. The domed cover decorated en suite.

Signed on the bottom in underglaze black for:

Employment dates: 1965 - 1972

For the 325th Jubilee  of Royal Delft in 1978 The black Delft was new introduced, It was based on the “Famille Noir” that was already made in Delft in the late 17th century. A black base decorated with several colours, the so called: The wondrous Black of Delft. This is an earlier type using the short - lived  “Black Scratch” technique, which is far less common.
