The tin glazed earthenware plate commemorating Van Dijk’s Europe –America flight. Decorated in shades of blue within the center the flying airplane VH - USU, the Southern Cross, a Fokker F.VIIb/3m trimotor aircraft  over the map with the Atlantic Ocean for the first Trans-Atlantic flight with Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, Evert van Dijk and the text:
EUROPA - AMERIKA VLUCHT   JUNI 1930
The rim with stylised floral swags and the text:
MET HET KOENE VIERTAL IS HEEL DE WERELD RIJK
EN NEERLAND WEL HET MEEST MET ZIJN DAPPEREN.
(with the courageous quartet the whole world is rich and the Netherlands the most with their daring.)

A series of only 600 plates.
Signed on the back in underglaze blue for:
DE PORCELEYNE FLES - ROYAL DELFT
   DELFT  -  HOLLAND      &    AZ = 1930
Painter’s initials:  VB  = Willem van Baarsel.           
Employment dates: June 1893 - 1944/45.
N.B. Damage rim top left.
