Original antique copper engraving, hand coloured:

“ GEZICHT van het OUDE-ZYDS-HEEREN-LOGEMENT, te Amsterdam, van Binnen te zien,

benevens de manier der verkoopingen van Schilderyen aldaar.”

Titles under the engraving. Left in Dutch, & on the right same text  in French.

Drawn and engraved by H.Schoute, circa 1765 for P. Fouquet.

Format engravin : 29,5 x 26 cm.  (1,.6 x 10,2 inches.)

 

Framed in Italian burr-walnut with coloured acid-free passe-partout.

Heigh : 52,8 cm. (20,8 inches.)

Width:  45 cm.    (17,7 inches.)

 

The engraving shows the Heerenlogement ( Hotel for high officials ) on  the Grimburgwal. It was built in 1646 by Philip Vingbooms. Amalia van Solms, Peter the Great and the Governour and king of England William III were sleeping here.  Also used as seen on the engraving for auctions of paintings
