The rare French Directoire La Paix ormolu gilt and patinated bronze clock with the figure of Bellona (Greek Enyo), the sister of Mars and the Roman Godess of war and popular among the Roman soldiers, sits astride a cannon with the barrel lowered as a sign of peace. Under the white-enamelled dial with black Roman numerals and five minutes marking an elaborate frieze symbolizing the age of love and peace replacing war. Standing on spreading eagle feet.
