Very Rare Dutch Blue & White Royal Delft Commemorative War Plate. Second World War - 1940. SOLD


The rare tin glazed earthenware war plate marking the start of the second world war. Decorated in shades of blue with an oak tree with a banderol:
Wie niet versaagt en waardig draagt
Zich zelven en ook and’ren schraagt,

(Who doesn’t quail and wears worthy, support himself and others.)
Under the tree the text: Oorlogsjaar 1940 (war year). The rim decorated with geometric motifs and stylized flowers. Produced during the Second World War.
Signed on the back in underglaze blue for:
DE PORCELEYNE FLES   -  ROYAL  DELFT
DELFT - HOLLAND  &  BK = 1941.

Painter’s initials: JF = J. Fröhlich Jr.
Employment dates: 1932 – 1977 or ‘79
